The Lays of the Thirteen Claws League - Session 86

This is another sort-of-IC retrospective by Bert, the party's thief locksmith-turned-bard. I give +1 character point (XP) for those players who submit a summary for me to post here on the blog. This session was played on 2021/02/04.

The Lays of the Thirteen Claws League

Canto 5:

So, in the charnel house on we fought
with the undead harassing at our rear.
But our brave squire, Manuta, bravely bought
us time: and battled on without fear.
The wounded Adam Aesallor stood near
her: avoiding blows by ducking, weaving
and dodging.  Lady Miao, found her way clear
to them, through the melee that was heaving,
to deploy Mister Stabby to do some cleaving.

The deadly shade continued its attack,
targeting Jenkins, Miao’s true manservant:
he fell, near dead, while Miao was running back.
The deadly she-cat was incandescent
swiftly swivelling her attack to front
the ghost and set to with sword crafting toil
mixing the odd snarl and howl with the grunt
of exertion as she avenged her loyal
man with the ferocity of one with blood royal.

The inquiet shade was soon surrounded
by our fighting crew, who began to hack
and slash the incorporeal undead
     finding, surprisingly, it didn’t lack
substance: it was solid as, say, a sack,
but more durable.  It made not as sound
as we rained down each sword blow and attack.
It needed a trio of us to pound
the ghost to nought.  An iron collar hit the ground.

We then turned to the monk, our man of faith,
to help poor Jenkins with his healing hands.
He explained what we’d fought was called a wraith
(properly), that’s what his church understands.
The servant recovered, but shaken, stands.
We all rested in the intermission,
and quickly debated what would our band’s
next move be?  Did dead Claude’s exorcision
mean we had actually completed our mission?

It did.  So, we returned to the surface
Miao and Yvor bickered on who’d be last
out –  we all discussed what had taken place.
All the hostages, like Claude, would have passed
away.  So, we felt that the die was cast:
the way was clear to snap the lich’s neck
but we’d have to do it now, make it fast.
But, most of the group would first go to check
the mana zone; Davin to the bibliotheque.
