DF Novices, Session 4 - Erizax's Log

Here is a backdated report from the player of Erizax. It picks up at session 4, but I think some of the character's recollection of events don't match the GM's. That's normal of course; real people misremember things all the time. And to quote Chief Bromden, "it's the truth even if it didn't happen".

------
We did find out what had the goblins in a panic, some kind of goat beastmen. No wonder the goblins were fleeing, these things are nasty. Borgergorg, Eleanor, Fenn and after a bit Agis all ganged up on one, it took a lot of hits and kept right on fighting. Meanwhile, Doran was fighting with three in the road. I think some others went after the goblins, but I'm not sure as I am exhausted and near collapse. Doran knocked one down pretty quickly. Eventually, the others hit the one in the woods so much it just fell apart. I made a big column of fire and moved it onto one that was flanking Doran while Borgergorg ran to help him. Fenn and Eleanor started shooting those two. After that it all went dark for me as I collapsed in the road, just one more body among many. Much later, I awoke and everyone seemed to have done their after battle routines. Borgergorg and Doran had talked to the one still standing goblin. Agis had helped its fallen friend to not die. Eleanor had a little temper tantrum and slit a few fallen goblin's throats. Fenn recovered what arrows he could find to refill his quiver. Borgergorg had arranged a truce with the goblins which made sure we, and the caravan, could have safe passage along the road. He had agreed that we would stick to the road and not hunt in the woods. I continued to rest and slowly recovered my strength. The caravan was overdue, it should have caught up to us by now. Fenn was uninjured and went off to see what was wrong. Taking stock of ourselves, I had an arrow in me, Borgergorg had been wounded several times, Agis was hurt pretty badly. I couldn't tell if Doran was injured or not, he was acting like he wasn't, but I thought I saw him get hit several times. Eleanor was OK, seems like she can avoid being hit just as well as she shoots her crossbow. After a long time the rest of us made our way back along the road to find the missing caravan. We met up with Fenn on his way back to us. The caravan had been attacked by three of those beastmen while they followed us along the road. Apparently, they didn't come out of it as lightly hurt as we did. Several had been killed and one of the guards, Cynric, was severely wounded. Baris and Talni were kind of nasty to us, blaming us for not being with them to fight off the few beasts they had met. Not like we could be in two places at once. Baris eventually calmed down and told us he didn't really blame us. I'm not so sure that Talni, or that rude noble, felt that way. Next morning we buried the dead, and found some old graves which had been dug up. I'm not sure who did it or why, no one else had any explanation. Agis said a ritual prayer over the newly buried. When we got back to camp there was some kind of disagreement going on. One of the merchants travelling with the caravan had healing potions among his trade goods. The noble was trying to get him to give them up for "the good of the group", he wasn't willing. I suggested to Baris and the noble that they should offer to compensate him for them. Borgergorg bartered away some captured swords we had taken from the goblin dead for a few. Eventually, Baris struck a bargain and got some, he shared with us. Cynric got one, but was still unable to use his sword arm. Agis tried healing Cynric again and he did recover the use of his arm. The day passed quickly as everyone pushed hard to make up lost time. We made it to the camping spot and settled in for a well deserved night's rest. - Erizax Ofaris
