GURPS DF Session 46 - Rumours and Secrets (another summary)
Following on from last session, we have another account of what happened. This summary is by Miao's player, which nets her a bonus CP.
In past few days, Miao been thinking about many things. Friendship, secrets, reliability... and money too, but that not important, even if Miao is now in smaller room and eating few less fancy things. Perhaps Miao can even live without wine, it not doing Holy One much good. For most of life, Miao been lucky to have food whenever Miao wants. When young, food and drink always available in kitchen of hall, brought to room if Miao asked when hungry in middle of night. Older, Miao always have easy time paying for things. On road, there always caravan to guard, monsters to fight or bandits to stab. Many, many ways of earning good living. It not so simple in town, even large town like this one, and Miao learning how to have easy time in town too. Miao is best with sword, and Miao been told people will give Miao money to teach them how to be nearly-as-good. That not bad idea, but first Miao need learn how to make others learn.
Miao been keeping that secret from others. Perhaps Miao is not certain how they will react to Miao suddenly earning keep in ways not slash-stab. Certainly, Miao not certain how Young One will react to news. It bad enough... no, one thing at time.
Living in town, above inn... and good inn, good food, good drink, much company, many stories... what Miao saying again? Ah, yes, in town, Miao hear things when drink been flowing for while. Lizard folk on the move. That not good. So Miao shares news with others, and be told that they also hear things. This was slight surprise for moment, Miao not certain round-ears had ears that could hear things like this. Young One suddenly concerned about Sorceress we rescue few weeks ago. There many reasons why Miao think people should be concerned of Sorceress. In Miao's experience, Magic not very good for brain of user. Go to Magic Guild one day, ask simple question, you will see.
Holy One... had greater concern. High Priest of temple had vision. That okay, practically normal, certainly expected of High Priest. But this time, High Priest have vision of someone stealing keys Miao gave Temple, keys that unlock prison of Thing Below. Now Miao very concerned as well. Miao already tried to see Sheriff about Lizard Folk, been told he busy for two hours, come back later, and then Miao hear about vision? It now time to go to Baron.
This where Miao run into unexpected problem. Problem about nature of friendship, of reliability... and secrets. Miao remember, very clearly, Young One not so sure about destroying Thing Below. Young One, Miao thought, wanted free Thing Below, or bargain with Thing Below. That very, very, very, very bad idea. Thing Below... very bad. In truth, Miao not certain it can be destroyed, not even by friends of Miao, certainly not by Miao herself. That why Miao tried to keep keys in safe hands. Safe hands, away from Young One. That why Miao never told Young One Miao had given keys to Temple.
That now why Miao cannot tell Young One why suddenly Miao and Holy One need see Baron urgently. That problem. Not simple problem that Young One want know everything... although that problem too... but problem that Miao feel she cannot trust Young One. And, if Miao is honest, Miao not certain it not vision of Young One stealing keys in first place.
Luckily, Miao and Holy One manage shake Young One on way to Hall, be told meet with Sheriff, Baron much much busy. So Miao and Holy One speak with Sheriff, tell him all things. Look on face of Sheriff tell Miao all... this bad news, on top of bad news, with side order of annoyance brought on by sauce of bad news. ... Miao suddenly hungry.
So now Miao has orders from Sheriff. Find out about vision, find out about Thing Below. If Miao understand correctly, what Sheriff is saying, is Miao must deal with Thing Below before it become problem on top of lizard folk.
Once, Miao certain that black-claw Sacnoth was responsible for missing traders in swamp, and rumors of steel weapons traded for skins. Now... Miao not so sure. That mean another black-claw skulking around swamp? Miao at least certain Sacnoth was not innocent man, but that not excuse fact Miao may have overlooked important facts. And it is job of noble ones to protect, so soon Miao will need look into that problem as well.
Ugh. So many problems!
