Diary of Merrill Tangled Tail:
**The last of the fragmentary notes, seemingly written on paper that is charred around the edges. The text is written in a tired hand and smudged occasionally with drops of what may very well be blood*
Urgh, everything hurt! First it only leg, then it torso and things inside torso that Merrill certain should never hurt. But now it everything. It as if Merrill been stepped on by many many feet. But it warm... so warm...
No, it hot! It burn, like fire!
There moment of confusion, because first there was fight and then there darkness and strange time when there no time except for visions in head. Then there moment when sound far away. It like time when Merrill was much much younger and caught cold that bad after falling in snow drift near temple. When Merrill swivel ears to find sound, it seem to come from everywhere and nowhere. But then, with shock that sudden, Merrill awake! It true, Merrill normally take time to wake up in morning. After all, it important part of day, and it important not to rush thing that is important. But this time, Merrill wide awake quick as quick, because there still sound of battle very close, and roaring fire even closer.
Fire so close, robes and fur being singed off!
So Merrill get to feet quick as quick, and shout question. It not elegant question. It certainly not question worthy of Little Moon Chasing. It not even question worthy of Big Moon Waning. Merrill ask, who need help?
It impossible to say how long Merrill been on ground, but when standing it seem fight much different than when falling. There more bandits on ground than Merrill remember, there Doran close with axe in hand and very big smile on face, there Ben close who punching at bandits in style that Merrill not recognise. And there Randall, kneeling on ground, holding bandit in fire with hold that Merrill also not recognise, but very very effective, yes yes. But it Eleanor who shout for help, and Merrill turn to see Eleanor the swift fighting bandit with hold that... Merrill will just say that perhaps it time he teach friends proper fighting technique. Merrill can even see Stout holding onto same bandit in hold that absolutely not taught in Temple. It first time Merrill seen someone hold onto enemy with teeth!
There little room for Merrill to get involved in fight, so instead aims kick at bandit that held. Clearly situation desperate, and in desperate situation it necessary to do desperate thing. So for first time ever, Merrill use claws in anger. First there is shame when first kick miss and Merrill nearly fall flat on face again. Ground is still moving, yes yes. Then there shame when Merrill's kick lands hard on torso of bandit, and Merrill's claws rake enemy. Then there blood... bandit blood.
When bandit fall, Merrill not certain if it Merrill's claws or teeth of Stout that finish job. But job finished all same.
There only one bandit left, and bandit wisely running away. There moment when there energy to go chase, but energy rapidly drain away and friends decide together without words that there no chase of bandit.
That end of fight. What fight!
Now to sit. Breathe.
Merrill done.
And trying to not notice robes burned beyond saving, and fur singed away on left arm and left side and left leg and ARRRGH!
Merrill noticing.
Merrill done. Nap time now?
