GURPS DF Session 47 - Caves of Chaos, part 1
The campaign resumes several months after the previous session, but only a couple days later in-game. It was a short session because I was late arriving after work.
I will keep my summary brief. Some of the players have more detailed in-character accounts.
Session Date: Thursday 7 November 2019
Party roster:
Miao Miao, cat-folk swashbuckler, 391 points (PC)
- Jenkins, human servant, 186 points (NPC Ally)
- Brother Warian, human monk (initiate), 177 points (NPC Ally)
Davin Emberwood, human wizard, 326 points (PC)
Llandor the Gray, wood-elf scout, 290 points (PC)
Sister Miriam Suntemple, human cleric, 297 points (PC)
Childebert "Bert" Ingoberger, halfling thief, 250 points (PC)
Location: Town of Marsh Hall, Barony of Marrowmarsh
The party was summoned by Baron Sterling.
At the hall there was a meeting of VIPs.
The party learned from high priestess Mother Evla that the attempted theft of the keys* will be in 4 weeks time.
Who will attempt to steal the keys, and for what purpose, is unknown.
The VIPs would definitely like the lich destroyed, before she/it is released.
Baron Sterling will reward whomever destroys the lich.
The question is whether or not the party is ready to survive taking on the lich, and can successfully destroy it permanently.
It appears the party has a 4 week deadline to make their preparations.
The party may need resources for training or equipment.
Mother Evla tells of an evil cult that may be involved in the theft of the keys.
The cult was uncovered in Marsh Hall many years ago, and was crushed at that time. The cult was known to practice necromancy.
Believed destroyed, the cult has apparently resurfaced on the borderlands at the edge of the kingdom.
On the borderlands are many intelligent monsters and savage humans, and the cult may be trying to unify these threats.
The monsters have been raiding caravans, and have probably built up quite a stash of loot.
Destroying the cult, aside from being a good thing in and of itself, could replenish the party resources.
Davin suggests his old acquaintance Bert to replenish their numbers.
The party decides to spend the next day making preparations, and to depart for the borderlands in 2 days....
*The four keys are to a tomb in the sewers containing an ancient lich. The party uncovered the keys and encountered the lich, bartering with her/it for a Macguffin, on a previous adventure. At the end of that adventure, Miao decided to give those keys to the temple for safe-keeping.
