DF Khoramandu Sea, Session 66 - Caves of Chaos, part 20
Due to the coronavirus lockdown, we once again played remotely using Hangouts. I don't use a VTT; when I need to show the battlefield, I use paper maps and minis, and point a webcam at the table.

- Jenkins, human servant, 186 points (NPC Ally)
- Brother Warian, human monk (initiate), 177 points (NPC Ally)

Davin Emberwood, human wizard, 326 points (PC)
Sister Miriam Suntemple, human cleric, 297 points (PC)
Hemmu Gahrol, half-orc knight, 256 points (PC)
Childerbert "Bert" Ingoberger, halfling locksmith (thief), 253 points (PC)
Location: Borderlands between the Kingdom of Ioscany and the Wilds of Pyrrhon
The party spent time in the keep: sorting out the loot, determining what was Evil and needed to be destroyed, what was to be sold, what was to kept, and so on. Evil items were taken to the keep armoured to be burned/melted. The magical shield previously looted from an orc chief, was taken to the keep armourer to be repaired. The cultists' robes, made of a unknown material and strong as armour but light as cloth, they also took to the armourer to be see if those could also be patched up.
Contents of the cultists' purses: 10 crowns, 10 florins, 75 shillings.
Coins from the high priest's wardrobe "trap": 51 florins, 97 shillings.
Remaining gems from the ivory throne: 4 onyx (each ~5 carat), 5 garnet (~10 carat), and 1 large (~15 carat) garnet. SOLD.
Eyes from the demon idol: 2 garnet (both ~4 carat). SOLD.
Gems from the high priest's wardrobe "trap": 49 obsidian stones (~5 carat each). SOLD.
Golden flagon and 9 cups from the antechamber: all gilded. SOLD.
All the above was sold for 50% value. This is the base 40% loot resale value, +10% bonus (reduction in guild fees) for having previously rescued the merchant Berun from the hobgoblins. That came to 74 crowns, 17 shillings, 10 coppers ($29,950).
Bert had palmed one of the black gemstones from the wardrobe, along with the high priest's ring. These items were not included in the above totals.
Davin took one each of the cultists' and the undead's amulets, for magical analysis. The rest were destroyed, along with the high priest's staff, in the fire of the armourer's forge.
The copper belts and the chain from the demon of old, were not sold. Davin had expressed an interest in the latter, to add to his trophy collection.
The keep armourer was given strict instructions to repair the magical shield without taking it apart completely, to avoid breaking the enchantment. He said this would take a week, and charged double the price of a new mundane shield. The robes were also given to the armourer to see if he could repair them; he told Yvor to come back in couple of days.
Each party member (6 PCs + 2 allies) was given 10 gc as their share of the spoils. The remainder of monies for the moment kept by Jenkins, who is now jangling with approx 6 lbs weight in coins.
Bert reserved their room in the inn for a week. The innkeeper asked for payment in coin this time, and Bert gave him 2 crowns to settle it.
The travel back to the ravine was uneventful (someone used their Luck on my wandering monster roll). From the woods above the ravine the party waited as Bert scouted ahead and spotted goblin-kin at the entrance to the evil cultists' cave. He signalled for the party to wait, and after a time the goblinoids departed.
Inside the evil temple, the party went first to the last remaining unexplored room of the first level. This was a shared room of some of the cultist priests. Inside the party found a set of bronze dishes and vessels of exceptional craftsmanship, and a collection of books and scrolls which Davin made a beeline for. There was nothing else of interest. Someone took the bronzeware (I don't recall who) and Davin took the written material.
Davin suffers from Curiosity, but it was surprising (to me) how little attention the other party members paid to the formerly-cursed wizard's interest in the cultists' writings.
The party then proceeded back to the stairs down to the lower level. Down the stairs they went, and along the turning passage, past the previously-explored branches, and continued on and around another corner, until they came to a barred door on the left-hand wall, with the passage continuing on a few yards further before turning once again. The party stopped at the door.
The halfling carefully removed the bar and opened the door an inch. It was dark within. Davin threw one of his Continual Light stones into the darkness, and there was a clattering as the stone disappeared down some stairs. There was some argument amongst the party as to whether they should explore this lower section, or continue onwards first and come back to the stairs afterwards. Davin then went in alone, to retrieve his stone. He heard a noise of someone or something coming, and rushed back up the steps. Then at the top of the stairs he waited to see who or what was coming. Unable to pull him through the door, Miao went past Davin to guard the top of the stairs. A figure came up at Miao, who made it through the door moments after Davin. Luckily for Miao, the creature's attack failed (I rolled 3 sixes) as it tripped charging up the stairs. The door was re-barred, and the party decided to come back to deal with this later.
The passage turned a couple times before opening into a large storeroom with no other exits. Yvor, Miao, and Hemmu stood guard at the doorway, while the others checked the room. It clearly held supplies for the evil temple, including food that looked decidedly unappetising. They had only been searching a few minutes when Yvor spotted a glint of metal in the light, and Hemmu heard a slimy squelching sound. Around the corner of the passage came a vertical wall of translucent goop, which contained some glittering coins and other objects. The cube-like gelatinous creature filled the entire 10 foot wide corridor, effectively blocking off their escape!
It was getting late, so we ended it there. The fight will commence next session...
